- Remove collar from chuck.
- Hold chuck by the shell in a vise with soft jaws or a fixture designed to hold round parts. In our factory, we use 1/4" aluminum plate containing a hole the size of the shell diameter. The plate has a slit that runs from the hole to one of the edges. When the shell is inserted into the hole and the plate is clamped in a vise, it applies equal gripping pressure around the entire shell circumference and mimimizes the chances of crushing it.
- Loosen hood with a strap wrench (RH thread)

- Once hood is loose, unscrew by hand to prevent distortion.
- Slide jaws out of jaw guide and remove guide.
- Remove body and spindle assembly to expose balls.
- Clean all parts with a mild solvent.
- Replace all worn or damaged parts.
- Reverse steps for assembly.
Caution -- Do not lubricate threads on body and spindle assembly. These surfaces must be clean and dry for chuck to work properly.
