Q. How do I take an Albrecht chuck apart to repair it?
A.
  • Remove collar from chuck.
  • Hold chuck by the shell in a vise with soft jaws or a fixture designed to hold round parts. In our factory, we use 1/4" aluminum plate containing a hole the size of the shell diameter. The plate has a slit that runs from the hole to one of the edges. When the shell is inserted into the hole and the plate is clamped in a vise, it applies equal gripping pressure around the entire shell circumference and minimizes the chances of crushing it.
  • Loosen hood with a strap wrench (RH thread)
  • Once hood is loose, unscrew by hand to prevent distortion.
  • Slide jaws out of jaw guide and remove guide.
  • Remove body and spindle assembly to expose balls.
  • Clean all parts with a mild solvent.
  • Replace all worn or damaged parts.
  • Reverse steps for assembly.

Caution -- Do not lubricate threads on body and spindle assembly. These surfaces must be clean and dry for chuck to work properly.

Q. What is the accuracy of a specific Albrecht chuck?
A. Albrecht drill chucks are the most consistently accurate drill chucks available anywhere in the world. It is Albrecht's policy not to publish accuracy specs because there are a number of variables that can affect them, such as drill diameter, drill length, arbor accuracy, etc.. If you need specific information on the accuracy of an Albrecht drill chuck, please contact our engineering department at 1-800-468-3008.

Q. Can Albrecht chucks be repaired?
A. Yes. Albrecht, Inc. offers a full rebuilding service at our Hauppauge, NY factory. Replacement parts and instructions are
also available for customers who wish to rebuild their own chucks.

Q. How can I tell which taper my chuck has?
A. The taper is usually on the body of the chuck, near the opening where the arbor is inserted. If this information
is missing from your chuck, please contact our engineering dept. at 1-800-468-3008 and they will help you measure it.
